🌸 15 Things to Do this Spring in Richmond, VA

Spring in Richmond is arguably its best season. The city wakes up, everything starts blooming, patios come alive, and there’s always something going on (hence this blog post). If you’re trying to make the most of the season, here are 15 can’t-miss things to add to your spring bucket list: 👇

🌸 Cherry Blossoms at Hollywood Cemetery (mid–late March)

There’s nothing more magical than wandering through Hollywood Cemetery when the cherry blossoms bloom. The mix of historic tombstones, hills, and soft pink blooms is peak spring vibes. Don’t skip President’s Circle - the circle is entirely outlined with cherry blossoms!

🍽️ Al Fresco Dining in Carytown (best: May & June)

When the weather hits that perfect sweet spot, Carytown patios are the place to be. Grab a table outside, order something delicious, and people-watch. Some restauraunts with patios include: Sen Organic, Mom's Siam, The Daily Kitchen, Lolita's and Minglewood Bakeshop.

🌷 Tulips at Agecroft Hall (late March–early April)

The tulip display at Agecroft Hall & Gardens feels straight out of a European dream. It’s colorful, peaceful, and one of the prettiest spring spots in the city. Their sunken tulip garden is seriously vibes with so many varieties too!

🏡 Tour Maymont Mansion (opens March 21)

Maymont is celebrating 100 years this year, and the mansion reopening is a big deal. Tour the stunning interiors, then wander the gardens and trails for a full dreamy spring day.

⚾ Catch a Flying Squirrels Game (Opening Day April 7)

There’s nothing like a spring baseball game with the Richmond Flying Squirrels - mostly because the summer games are so hot! Opening Day of the season and brand new Carmax Stadium is on April 7.

🧺 Picnic at VMFA (best: April–June)

The lawn at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is made for picnics, and the spring is the perfect time of year to have one. Bring a blanket, your favorite snacks, and stay for golden hour.

🏃 Monument Avenue 10K (April 18)

Even if you’re not running, the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10K is one of Richmond’s most iconic days. Costumes, cheering crowds, and nonstop energy. I have both ran and cheered on runners at the 10K, and either way the vibes are on point!

🎭 Broadway Shows at Altria Theatre

Catch a touring Broadway show at the gorgeous Altria Theater. It’s one of those classic nights out that always feels a little fancy (in the best way). Shows this season are: The Outsiders, The Wiz, &Juliet + Beauty and the Beast!

🎨 Arts in the Park at Byrd Park (May 2–3)

Byrd Park turns into a giant outdoor gallery during this festival. Local artists, live music, and major spring vibes. Shop art, eat some food and enjoy!

🌊 Dominion Riverrock Festival (May 15–17)

Adventure lovers, this one’s for you. Dominion Riverrock brings kayaking, climbing, trail running, live music and more right to the James River. Plus, it's free!

🖼️ The Fan Arts Stroll (May 13–14)

Stroll through The Fan District while local artists transform porches and sidewalks into mini galleries. It’s charming, creative, and very Richmond. (This is my favorite event of Spring!)

🎶 Shows at Alliance Amphitheater (best: May & June)

Longer days = outdoor concerts. The Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront is the perfect spot to catch live music with skyline views - and before it gets too hot!

🌿 Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Expansion (opens May 23)

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is already stunning, but the new expansion opening May 23 makes this spring extra special. Expect even more blooms, conservatory and another lake!

⚽ Cheer on Richmond Ivy or Kickers (March, April, May & June)

Game days are such a vibe. Catch the Richmond Kickers (mens) or Richmond Ivy (womens) soccer teams and enjoy a fun, laid-back night out.

🚣 Whitewater Rafting the James River (best: June)

When it warms up, it’s time to hit the James River. Rafting down the rapids is one of the most iconic Richmond experiences. The views of downtown from the river are seriously epic! Don't be intimidated by the name - this is a great activity for first-timers!

Spring in Richmond is that perfect mix of nature, events, and energy. One minute you’re walking through tulips, the next you’re at a festival by the river or eating outside on a patio.

If you’re planning your spring here…just know you’re going to fall in love with Richmond!!
