11 Can’t-Miss Events in Richmond This September 🎉

September might be one of my favorite months in Richmond. Fall is starting to sneak in, and somehow the RVA events calendar is so good! From Oktoberfest celebrations and live music to watching prehistoric sturgeon leap out of the James River (yes, seriously 😂), there are so many fun and uniquely Richmond things happening this month.
Richmond Flying Squirrels Games | September 10 ⚾️
Catch the Squirrels during their final regular-season home series at the brand-new CarMax Park (including Nutasha Night + a 200-drone show on September 10).
James River Atlantic Sturgeon Watching Tours | Sept. 11-18 🐟:
Ages 12+. Late summer brings the annual spawning migration of the endangered Atlantic sturgeon. This is an ancient species that has lived in the James River for millions of years! Hop aboard a boat tour for the chance to see these massive prehistoric fish breach right out of the water.
Virginia Distilled | Sept. 12 🥃
Celebrate Virginia Spirits Month with an "after-hours" party at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture! Sample spirits from 12+ Virginia craft distilleries, enjoy live bluegrass, food trucks and museum galleries, plus learn about Virginia’s moonshining history and watch the 2026 Virginia Cocktail of the Year be crowned. Ages 21+.
VA Pridefest | Sept. 12 🏳️🌈
Virginia’s largest Pride celebration, with vendors, food, entertainment and David Archuleta performing this year.
Richmond Kickers Games | September 12 & 19 ⚽️
Catch one of Richmond’s hometown soccer teams at City Stadium! The Kickers have two home games this September: Pups at the Pitch on September 12 against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and Hispanic Heritage Night on September 19 against Charlotte Independence. Both games start at 6pm.
St. Benedict Oktoberfest Sept. 18–20 🍺
German food, beer, music and dancing right in the city. This is one gets pretty packed, but it's all a part of the fun!
Iron Blossom Music Festival | Sept. 19–20 🎵
One of Richmond’s big contemporary music festivals, with national acts alongside local and emerging artists.

State Fair of Virginia (Doswell) | Sept. 25–Oct. 4 🎡
Probably the classic Virginia fall event: rides, concerts, competitions and tons of interesting fair food.

Richmond VegFest | Sept. 26 🌱
Obviously this one belongs on your list! It takes over Byrd Park from 12pm–6 p.m. with 100+ vendors (me included!), vegan food, speakers, music and family activities. You don't have to be vegan to come - just come visit my Vegan Club RVA tent and say hi!

14th Annual Gatsby Afternoon Picnic | Sept. 26 🥂
Step back into the 1920s & ’30s at the historic Wilton House Museum! Dress in vintage attire, pack an elaborate picnic and enjoy live jazz, Charleston dancing, croquet, vintage cars, contests and more. Great for dressing up and people watching!
Maymont Bier-Garden | Sept. 26–27 🍻
A Bavarian-style fall festival with German food, live entertainment, games and a "Kinderzone".
And that’s September in Richmond! 🍂 Whether you’re drinking a beer at Oktoberfest, picnicking like it’s the 1920s, eating your way through VegFest (best choice!) or cruising the James in search of Atlantic sturgeon, there are SO many reasons to get out and explore RVA this month.
September is also the beginning of one of my absolute favorite times of year in Virginia, so stay tuned - there are plenty of fall festivals, foliage-filled road trips and cozy Virginia adventures coming next!
