Spring in Richmond is the best time of year in my opinion. One week the city looks like winter, and the next flowers are blooming everywhere - cherry blossoms, tulips, daffodils, flowering trees… all with historic architecture and river views in the background. It's a vibe!!
If you want the most beautiful spring strolls in RVA, these are 5 Places where the city absolutely explodes with color:

1. Agecroft Hall & Gardens
If you want to feel like you’ve stepped into an English garden in the middle of Richmond, Agecroft Hall is the place.
This stunning Tudor manor house overlooking the James River was originally built in England in the late 1400s before being reconstructed in Richmond in the 1920s.
The best spot is the sunken garden, which fills with colorful tulips and seasonal blooms in the Spring.
Best time to visit:
Late March through April when the tulips are in peak bloom.
Pro tip: Walk down to the bluff overlooking the James River, it’s one of the prettiest views in the entire city and there are tons of daffodils on the trail!

2. Hollywood Cemetery
Yes… one of Richmond’s best spring flower spots is actually a cemetery!
But Hollywood Cemetery is not your average cemetery. This massive 135-acre historic landscape sits on hills overlooking the James River and was designed as a picturesque rural cemetery in the 1800s.
In spring, flowering trees pop up all over the grounds, especially around President’s Circle, where cherry blossoms and other blooming trees frame the monuments and river views. I always say it looks like Rivendell from Lord of the Rings!
Don’t miss:
The views of the James River
The blooming trees around the winding roads
The quiet paths lined with historic tombstones

3. Monument Avenue
Monument Avenue is best viewed in the Fall...but also, in the Spring!
This grand historic boulevard is lined with massive old trees and stunning early-20th-century architecture.
Spring walks here are especially magical because you’ll see:
Cherry blossoms
Dogwoods
Flowering magnolias
Colorful front-yard gardens
Grab a coffee, stroll the sidewalks, and soak in the vibes!!
My Ultimate Guide to RVA is basically your shortcut to the best food, hidden gems, historic sights, and can’t-miss experiences in Richmond:👇

4. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
This 50-acre botanical garden just outside Richmond features more than a dozen themed gardens and seasonal displays.
Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit thanks to the famous Cherry Tree Walk around the water, where flowering cherry trees create a dreamy canopy of blossoms along the water.
Across the gardens you’ll also see:
Cherry blossoms
Daffodils
Tulips
Flowering trees and shrubs
Daffodils typically start blooming in March, while tulips often peak in early to mid-April.
Bonus: The garden is currently expanding and adding new spaces, making it even more incredible for future visits.

5. Maymont
This 100-acre historic estate has a little bit of everything - gardens, wooded trails, wildlife exhibits, and beautiful overlooks of the James River.
Spring highlights include:
The Italian Garden, where fountains and terraces are surrounded by seasonal flowers.
The Japanese Garden, which looks especially dreamy when flowering trees bloom.
Open lawns dotted with daffodils and budding trees.
It’s the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon wandering and soaking up the first warm days of the year.

Windsor Way in Windsor Farms
Windsor Way is one of the prettiest walks in Richmond, especially in spring. Think charming homes, blooming trees, and a brick path that feel straight out of a magazine.
It’s quieter than Monument Ave but just as dreamy, perfect for a slow stroll or photos. Take your time and wander the entire neighborhood while over here! It's amazing!

Byrd Park
Byrd Park is huge at 287 acres!
It’s one of the largest parks in Richmond
You’ve got multiple lakes (Swan Lake, Shields Lake, Fountain Lake)
Tons of walking paths, open green space, and hidden corners
Around the lakes (especially Swan Lake), you’ll find blooming trees reflecting on the water, plus tons of open space to soak it all in. It's also typically less crowded than other spots, but still so pretty.
Grab a coffee, bring your camera, and spend a few weekends exploring. Richmond absolutely shows off this time of year!
