8 Things to Do & What to Eat in Sarasota, Florida

Sarasota, Florida is the perfect destination for lots of activities, the beach, great weather - and in my case, visiting family. Here is a list of things I have done throughout the years of coming down to visit my grandparents. I have included some restaurants with vegan options as well!

Siesta Key Beach

This beach is voted #1 beach in the USA and it's for good reason! The white sand is so soft it's like powedered sugar. Plus the water is so blue and if you're coming in the summer, it's quite warm. Get here early, before 10am, to beat the crowds and get a parking spot (especially during Spring Break!).

Veg Restaurant

If you're hungry after going to Siesta Key Beach, stop by Veg - a 100% vegan restaurant. We got the buffalo cauliflower bowl and club sandwich with impossible meat. Everyone there was super nice and the food was quite good too!

John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art

This is one of my favorite places on the list because it has so many of my favorite things! They have a tour of the Ringling Mansion, an art museum, gorgeous beachfront, a museum about the Circus, a garden, and a theater! Its worth it to stop by and see it all.

University Town Center

This is a shopping mall located in Sarasota near the freeway, and it is really big! If you love shopping, this is the place!

This is a juice bar and grab n' go health food store. My mom loved stopping by here after her chiropractor appointments and took me. We got the Orange Pineapple Donuts and they were gluten-free and super delicious! They change donut flavors weekly and are only available on select days - call to order!

St. Armand's Circle

This is a hip and happening place to go as it has tons of boutiques, local shops, food places, and it fun to walk around. It can get busy during Spring Break, so I recommend coming right when the stores open, approx. 10am. Alvin's is a great place to get a Sarasota souvenir or t-shirt.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream

At St Armand's Circle they have a Ben & Jerry's which always has some vegan ice cream flavors. I recommend this peanut butter & chocolate chunk.

Kayaking Mangrove Forest (Ted Sperling Nature Park) - FREE!

This is my second favorite activity to do in Sarasota! My mom has kayaks, so it's easy for me to drive here and throw them in! There are tons of mangroves with clearly marked trails, so you just see a sign and turn into these incredible - what I like to call them - "water forests". It's so calm and peaceful and I even saw dolphins last time I went kayaking here! The water is shallow and you can see the bottom when in the mangroves.

Anna Maria Island

This is THE place to see the sunset. I like to arrive around dinner time, grab something at one of the beach bars and afterwards walk the beach to watch the sunset. I've never seen a bad one here.

Fam Kitchen

I found this food truck with my mom one day and it was super tasty and everything was made fresh! We got the Portobello Melt and the Tofu Teriyaki Bowl. I definitely recommend getting a sandwich over a bowl. Everything here is 100% vegan.

Downtown Sarasota:

OK, this next section of Sarasota is my third favorite place to visit! I love downtown. I love to walk into all the shops, eat, and hang in the coffee shops. This area has the largest concentration of my favorite restaurants too!

Main Street Creamery

As you can see in the photo above, this ice cream shop has vegan options! If you do anything once in your life - YOU HAVE TO try the vegan Peanut Butter Brownie ice cream (non-vegans love it too!). It was voted the best vegan ice cream flavor in the nation, and I would have to agree - it is amazing! They change flavors daily (except the peanut butter) and so we got the coconut milk Strawberry flavor last time and it was good too! Plus the guy who works there is a subscriber of my YouTube channel, so it's a cool place in general. :P

Lucille’s Pizza

I'm sad I don't have a better picture of their pizza then this, haha because it is incredible!! They have regular and vegan pizza here and it's all woodfired to perfection. I got the Truffle Mushroom w/ Walnut Meatballs & Peperoncini pizza. Order it exactly like this and prepare to be amazed!!

Project Coffee

This is my favorite coffee shop downtown, probably because its a 100% vegan coffee shop so I can literally order anything and not have a stomach ache! I got the Turmeric Latte, Pineapple Dream smoothie, and a delicious Biscuit w/ Blackberry Jam. Highly recommend!

My mom and I popped in here when walking around downtown and it was love at first sight. They have specially curated sections for what kind of a reader you are. I also love bookstores and always want to buy them all!

Sarasota Art Museum

What made this art museum appealing to me was the fact that it was located inside the old and beautiful Sarasota High School. Its more of a modern art museum and has rotating exhibits often.

I LOVE this place! It has so many vegan options for being a thai restaurant. In the past I have ordered the Tofu Red Curry, Veggie Peanut Curry, Veggie Fried Rice, Fresh Roll, and Mango Boba Tea - and every bit of it was incredible. They have an entire separate vegan menu here, so just say vegan if that's what you want when you order. They are super helpful! Make sure to get a boba tea!
