Attempting British Spotted Dick recipe!
Every country I visit I want to attempt to make a traditional food item.
This month is the United Kingdom!
Today in the UK, I am going to attempt 'Spotted Dick', which I had to choose not only for the name. but it is a very traditional dessert here.
Spotted Dick is a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit, and is thought to have originated in the middle of the 19th Century. The "spotted" part of the name refers to the currants, which resemble spots, and "Dick" is believed to derive from the old English word for dough. They used to serve this pudding (or moist cake as we know it as in the US) in school Cafeterias in the 19th century.
It has a very basic recipe, so I hope I can get it right, as today I have my British friend Dan taste-testing it to see if it tastes authentic. As well as Lukas, who is American, to see if he likes my baking!

This was a bit tough since we have different measurements in America and I didn't have any kitchen scales (this is what they use in the UK).
The 'Most Interesting Ingredient Award' goes to Beef Suet. Suet is made of Beef Fat and added to the mixture.
The recipe is supposed to be quite basic. Just mix everything together.
Then make it into a 20cm fat roll and tie it up on both ends, leaving room for growth while steamed.
Steam for 1 hour and 30 minutes and you have yourself a Spotted Dick pudding!
